CELEBRATED CYCLE JOURNEYS - for those who 'love' cycling
Celebrated Cycle Journeys (CCJ) offer itineraries with a 'WOW' factor in countries or locations that have deep routed historical and celebrated pasts and which create an experience that is so much
'more than just a cycle ride'.
All our cycle journeys are guided with vehicle backup and, where deemed necessary, we provide a travelling doctor. With the emphasis on detail and with our high crew-to-client ratio our holidays offer spectacular, exhilarating cycling in exceptional destinations whilst caring for our client's every need - a formula we believe to be unrivalled.
Our itineraries are also ideally suited to give a unique company/client bonding experience and CCJ would be happy to work with you to develop an unforgettable team event using already developed itineries, or bespoke routes either in the UK or worldwide.
We are always working on new ideas and we have two very exciting new itineraries for 2014. Our bespoke itineraries are usually one-offs often in far flung destinations, but our repeat itineraries are listed below:
♦ NORMANDY: Portsmouth to Pegasus - 'OK, Let's Go!' - The Beaches and Memorials of June 1944. Arguably one of the most historic and evocative journeys in peacetime Europe, this long weekend of fabulous cycling provides lots of fun and much relfection on the events of June 1944. This is a truly enchanting route through hidden Normandy, painstakingly plotted along often undiscovered tracks - a gentle(ish) cycle ride, with so much to see along the way. You will be spoilt by our experienced crew attending to your every need, our gourmet picnic lunches washed down with a glass of the local vin Rosé and champagne aperitifs before dinner.
♦ TUSCANY: 'The Tuscan Miracle' - Birthplace of the Renaissance, and the most civilised rural scene on earth. This is the most stunning area with a fantastic mix of ancient cities of historic significance, pretty old villages, and spectacular scenery. The most sensational cycling - some of the best that you will find anywhere in the world - will leave you with an overwhelming sense of privilege of being in such a magical and magnificent place. With our fresh, locally bought daily picnics and a glass (or two) of vino rosato to help you on your way, our centrally located hotels and ever caring crew, this is guaranteed to be a wonderful and unforgettable journey.
♦ ATLANTIC TO MEDITERRANEAN: 'Les Deux Mers' - One of the greatest cycle rides and not to be missed! Only for the cycle fit, this sensational journey begins in Aquitaine and takes us from the long sandy beaches and white rolling surfs of the Atlantic to the blue sparkling waters of the Mediterranean, through the heart of the Bearn and Languedoc regions of southern France. Mainly on back-roads we cycle through pretty ancient Romanesque cities, towns and villages which are linked by a network of rivers, and amidst stunning mountain scenery, over two of the most famous Tour de France Cols in the majestic Haute Pyrenees. The gentle tow path of the Canal du Midi leads us into the vineyards and sunflower fields of the east and finally towards the coast where you will dip your wheels in the sea to mark the end of this memorable ride. Undoubtedly a challenge for some, but this holiday is a 'must' for anyone who loves their bike and very suitable to raise sponsorship against should one so wish.
NEW! ♦ BURMESE BONANZA! 'This is Burma and it is unlike any land you know about' Rudyard Kipling, Letters from the East (1898) Pushing the limits is something we like to do and Myanmar is a country with plenty of new places to explore. So come and explore with us on this one-off trip of Myanmar. This exceptional and ground breaking cycle ride will not only take you to the must see area of central Myanmar, but also on a pioneering route south of Yangon. The itinerary includes: The Golden Rock; Moulamein (the first colonial capital of British Burma); Bilugyun Island; Thanbyuzayat (the terminus of The Death Railway and Allied War Cemetery); Yangon; Inle Lake; Pindaya and its Golden Cave; Mandalay; Py in Oo Lwin; train excursion on the famous Goktiek Viaduct; Monywa; Bagan.
NEW! ♦ WORLD WAR ONE - ONE HUNDRED YEARS ON: In Flanders Fields and The Valley of The Somme -
A tribute to man and horse.
We are all aware of WW1 and the way in which it changed our world, but if you have not witnessed for yourself the aftermath of this devastating war – the evidence of unimaginable loss of life, and now the peace and tranquility that abides in those once un-forsaken, sodden battlefields, this is a journey that should not pass you by. The aim of this itinerary is to pay tribute to over one million British and Commonwealth troops who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country in The Great War 1914 - 1918, and also to the eight million horses and mules who perished either in battle, or in their hugely important role of transportation. The stories and suffering of the animals who served between 1914 and 1918, their critical and indispensable role and the often passionate and vital relationship between man and horse is not always remembered or understood. Today, Flanders Fields and the battlefields of the valley of The Somme provide some terrific cycling, so this is a holiday that is un-equaled in content – the ride; the history; and of course the engaging story of Warrior.
